Our Impact

The IEEE Humanitarian Technologies Board (HTB) aims to support many impactful humanitarian technology and sustainable development projects with local communities around the world. As such, the Board not only provides funding to support projects, but also devotes resources to developing educational materials to ensure project success and impact assessment to better understand what was accomplished.

HTB looks at impact from a variety of angles, through the lens of its four main areas of focus.

IEEE HAC|SIGHT Success Story Portfolio

A select group of the projects awarded funding in 2021 are presented in the HAC|SIGHT Success Story Portfolio to showcase the diversity and initial impact of the technological solutions implemented by our volunteers. Each one has addressed a critical, complex problem within the project team’s local community by working together with community members to improve their quality of life in some way. IEEE HTB is proud to share the stories of these funded projects and a summary of each activity’s initial outcome.

Thank you to all of the HAC|SIGHT Project volunteers for your amazing efforts and ongoing contributions to your local communities. Your work makes a real difference!

Past HAC/SIGHT Funded Projects 2020 - 2022

IEEE HTB, previously the Humanitarian Activities Committee (HAC), has been working to meet the demand among IEEE members for humanitarian technology activities and address the tremendous global need for sustainable development efforts since HAC was formed in 2016. Certain strategic changes were made in 2020 to ensure the HAC/SIGHT projects program was tangible and relevant to all IEEE members. These updates lowered barriers to member engagement; expedited proposal review; decreased risk; increased the likelihood of proposal success; increased project success and impact; allowed for better understanding and evaluation of the desired and actual outputs and outcomes of funded projects; and encouraged further professional development and engagement with IEEE.

After careful consideration of the hundreds of proposals received, the HAC/SIGHT project proposal reviewers determined which ones should receive funding. To see a list of funded projects from 2020 – 2022 with a brief description of each one, please see this spreadsheet.
